Section 1: Truck Driving Schools

  • What does it cost to get started with your school?

Your out-of-pocket cost will be between $100 - $200. THAT'S IT. That covers your licensing fees and your physical fees. You won't find a better deal anywhere, especially when you get the quality training our truck driving schools provide.

  • How long do your truck driving schools last?

 Our truck driving schools last between 2 and 4 weeks. Each school uses at least a 160 hour program providing all the classroom time, range time, and road time you need to get comfortable with truck driving.

  • Will I get paid while I am in school?

No - Just like when you were in grade school...

  • How can you guarantee me a job after I get my CDL?

Before we send you off to one of our truck driving schools, we make sure you are qualified to work with one of our trucking clients. We will ask you a series of questions that will help us determine your eligibility. Obviously, we rely on each applicant's honesty when making a determination. If we send you off to one of our truck driving schools, you will already be PREHIRED by one of our carriers. Simply stated, you will already have a trucking job lined up before you go to one of our trucking driving schools!

  • Will I be ready to roll once I get out of school?

Yes, once you graduate and get your CDL, you will be qualified to work for one of our trucking jobs. You will join the company's truck driving training program. This means that you will be assigned an experienced driver who will show you the trucking "ropes."

Section 2: Truck Driver Training

  • Will I get paid while receiving my truck driver training?

Yes, you will receive a weekly salary while you are in training. The amount will depend on which trucking company you are working with.

  • How long will my truck driver training last?

4 - 6 weeks depending on which of the truck driving jobs you choose.

  • Will my trainer be on the truck with me?

Yes, your trainer will be on the truck with you and will follow the company's truck driver training program. This will include ensuring you are properly taught how to do specific tasks related to truck driving - stuff like bumping the dock, communicating with customers, paperwork, working with your driver manager, etc. They will also give you some of the little secrets they have learned that have allowed them to enjoy their time on the road.

  • Will I be driving as soon as I begin my truck driver training?

Yes. And you will also find that your trainer will phase you in by gradually giving you more responsibility and tougher terrain. You won't be "thrown in with the wolves" right off the bat. Your trainer will assess your readiness and based on your progression will increase your responsibility. The emphasis is always on safety.

  • What happens when I am finished with my truck driver training?

Once you have completed your truck driver training you will become a full-fledged, trained driver. You will move from a salary to a mileage based pay structure allowing you to make a lot more money.

Section 3: Truck Driving Jobs

  • How much money will I make as an experienced truck driver?

Depending on HOW MUCH experience you have, a good experienced driver will make anywhere between $40,000 and $80,000 per year. And, there are actually some experienced drivers who make over $100,000. The great thing about truck driving jobs is you have the most influence on how much you make. The harder you work, the more you make.

  • How do I know which of the truck driving jobs is right for me?

There are a lot of factors that play into the decision, including hometime, pay, company's reputation and financial standing, company size, and the hiring area of each company. That being said, Drivers Choice handles ALL that for you. That is what we do best. We will help you make the best decision for your situation.

  • How often will I get home?

Each company has their own hometime policy, but you can expect to be home every 2 -3 weeks. Sometimes you may get home more often, but the standard is every 2 -3 weeks. The companies we work with all have dedicated opportunities as well, which provide a more steady hometime without sacrificing pay.

  • Are there opportunities for advancement?

Absolutely. All of our trucking companies LOVE to hire people who want to advance in their truck driving jobs. There will be opportunities for dedicated runs, training positions, specialized fleets, and even becoming an owner operator. The opportunities are GREAT for someone who is a dedicated, hard working, and safe driver.
